How To Install Mercruiser Outdrive

Im pretty sure my gimbal bearing is shot on my 4.3 mercruiser alpha one. A bad gimbal bearing will make noise. Think i have a bad gimbal bearing but.

This past week I replaced the gimbal bearing, along with all the bellows on my '87 Forester Phantom with an Alpha One outdrive. I took it for a ride for the first time today and there was a high pitch whirring noise around 2500 to 3000 rpm. As the rpms got higher, the noise would start to fade. In neutral it would make the same noise. I am pretty sure that the noise was coming from the new gimbal bearing. I greased the bearing after installing it.

After driving the boat for about 20 minutes, I reached behind the engine and felt the drive shaft, it was warm but not so hot that it burned me. Una Noche De Verano Gerri Hill Descargar Pdf. I ended up driving the boat for about an hour total and the noise did go away a little bit, but it was definitely still there the entire time. Is this normal for a new bearing? I hoping that there is some sort of break in period, but have never read about one in the numerous posts that I have read on this forum. I was planning on taking the boat out again tomorrow, but would like to make sure that I am not damaging anything before I do. Also, I did align the engine after installing the new bearing.

I could easily slide the tool in with two fingers and pull it back out again, with even spline marks all the way around. Thank you for your help. Edit: I used a Sierra bearing.

Hello, New boat owner here & I have a question on a repair estimate. We just brought a 1996 180 LE model with the 135hp Mercrusier Engine ($4500) and found out the Gimbal Bearing is shot! Life lesson learned as it looks like this is now our problem after 1 month.

Engine is quiet as a kitten, but a terrible rumbling noise coming from the floor just in front of the engine compartment (idle & running). I noticed this during the test drive but did not know enough to ask why & did not have a mechanic check out the boat. Anyway I went to a local repair shop here in the Blue Ridge, GA area and he explained everything regarding the Gimbal bearing and how it works.

I've met this person before and trust what he says & he knows a lot about boats. He also mentioned/recommended that while he had the transom out he should go ahead & replace a few rubber boots?? (exhust, gimbal,??) which will protect things moving forward and thus we should be good to go in that area for some time. I think in all, he mentioned the parts would come to around $200 total.

Total Cost for Repair Work: $500 3-4 days to complete. Does this seem like a resonable deal? And is there anything in that area he should also check/replace while he's doing those repairs??

Thanks in Advance, Frank •. Thanks for the info and yes now that you mention it, he did mention they were exhust, drive & shift bellows. He said one of them keeps water out of the gimble bearing. The radio was bad that was sitting in mounted in the glove compartment so I ordered on E-bay a used replacement (working condtion) of the one I took out:. I wanted the plugs to match up underneath and thought if I brought something Newer it would be a mess to connect back up. Also the trim gauge and mph do not operate. I read here that the trim gauge can be difficult or expensive to fix but the mph should just be a clogged plug.

The bill of sale we got says 1996. Roman Numeral Fonts. ? I have to take more pics for sure. Frank, like others have advised, if the mechanic is going that deep into the outdrive to replace the gimble bearing, it would be prudent to also have them replace all the service parts like the drive and exhaust bellows as well as the water hose, shift bellows and the trim/tilt switches. I say this because they will literally have their hands on each one of these items in order to gain access to the gimble bearing. Unfortunately if any one of these items ever fails down the road they would require tearing down the outdrive and removing the housing again to get to them.

+1 do it all while they are in there. Sould need: Transom kit 30-803099t1 238.75 deer Includes all bellows seals gimble bearing and water hose.
